Finding the right present for young adults can be challenging. While money and store certificates are always an option, with a little effort, you can select gifts that have meaning, support their passion, and will inspire them now and in the future. This page will have ideas for teen gifts as well as gifts for new and experienced drivers.

Gift Ideas:

For teen drivers

Smart home has a number of items such as a flashing collaspible cone, a moster IPOD charger that lets you play your IPOD through your radio, and a laser garabe parking guide.

Smart Car Products - Large

For readers: A new book from a favorite author. Visit the author’s website to see if you can buy an autographed copy for the occasion or check with local bookstores for author signings.

The Driving Book is a great reference for new drivers. And the 110 Car and Driving Emergencies will be helpful to new as well as experienced drivers.

For writers: A great reference book such as The Synonym Finder by Rodale or Random House Webster's Word Menu by Stephen Glazier. Many professional writers keep these handy as they work.

For sports fans: Tickets to a major league baseball game or to a sporting event at the college they plan to attend

For the computer user:

  • A new accessory like a printer, DVD player, or color scanner
  • A digital camera. Cannon makes several mid-range models under $300.
  • A copy of Quicken 2006 to balance checkbooks and manage finances. $49.95 at www.quicken.com

Always consult with the student to make sure hardware and software will work with their current computer system. For the college bound, contact the university store to see if an educational discount is available for computer-related purchases.

For the job seeker: Knock ‘em Dead 2006 by Martin Yate is an invaluable resource for the graduate entering the job market. The book features the latest job search techniques both in person and online as well as provides the best answers to over 200 challenging interview questions. It explains the interview process and what it takes to get ahead in a career. The book is available online at amazon.com and most bookstores. $14.95

For the investment-minded:

Own One Share of Harley Stock!

Buy one or more shares of stock in a company in the area of the student’s interest--for computer science, a share of Microsoft; for a business major, a share of Citicorp. Oneshare.com offers a package including a single share of stock and a framed stock certificate. Through online and traditional brokers, you can also purchase shares of stocks and have them transferred or registered in the graduate’s name. You may need to set up a custodial account if your graduate is a minor and you’ll need their social security number to complete the registration. Talk to your broker for more information.

For the entrepreneurial teen:

  • Business cards with contact information. At vistaprint.com you can design them online and then receive 250 free business cards if you pay the shipping costs of $5.25 or you can choose premium designs for under $10 plus shipping.
VistaPrint - Save 25% Off!

  • To go along with the business cards, chose a business card case that stands out. One to consider is made from recycled motherboards which can be purchased at eco-artware.com

http://www.eco-artware.com/catalog/MB2-card-case.shtml

  • The teen ’s own Internet domain. At www.godaddy.com, you can register one for $8.95 a year. Check to see if the full name is available in the .com, .net, .us. or .biz extensions. Presently, the .com’s are preferred, although the others are gaining favor, too. For example, for graduate Prudence Miller, you’d see if prudencemiller.com is available. You can also sign up for an inexpensive email service using the registered name. (example: pru@prudencemiller.com)

For the movie or TV buff:

  • Scene-it—a great new multi-media game for movie lovers that contains clips from more that 180 movies, 250 stars, and 1300 questions. Scene It? is designed to play on any device that supports DVD play. X-box will need a converter for DVD play. Playstation will not need a converter. Scene It? can also be played on a laptop if the laptop has an updated DVD player software. The game can be purchased in computer and bookstores as well as from the link below.
